The Brave Browser has become one of the most popular applications that connect a traditional web browser with blockchain technology. It is Brave’s goal to increase crypto adoption by native integration of the technology and to protect its user’s privacy with many features like an in-build adblocker. But that’s not the only feature and in this article, we are going to explore what Brave has to offer.
Why is Brave integrating Solana and what can you do with it?
Many crypto users opt for Metamask or similar wallets that can be installed as a plugin in most common browsers. Brave on the other hand has its own tokenized ecosystem that allows users to the Basic Attention Token (BAT) if they agree to receive ads with a certain frequency. They can choose either to spend BAT and donate it to websites and content creators or keep it for themselves.
The Brave wallet not only allows to send and receive BAT but was extended over the last couple of years and has become a multi-coin wallet that supports all blockchains that are compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine such as Polygon or Avalanche. It is also possible to connect a hardware wallet the same way as with other browser wallets to increase security.
According to the press release Brave is going to integrate Solana in its wallet first, which will allow users to send, receive and store SOL and SPL tokens. But that’s merely the first step since it seems that Brave is supporting Solana’s mission to become the new Web3 standard.
In fact, the Solana blockchain will become the new home of the Basic Attention Token and the whole Brave ecosystem. With version 1.39 users have to use Wormhole to bridge their BAT from one chain to another. But in the future, Solana will become the native chain.
This will also mean that Brave is going to support Solana NFTs natively and that users can trade their digital collectibles directly in their Brave wallet. Even BAT will see an extension of its use case and will serve as means of payment when buying or trading NFTs. Most recently Magic Eden has overtaken OpenSea in terms of weekly transactions. With Solana NFTs becoming more popular and Braves integration of Solana it will be exciting to see if the Solana blockchain manages to become indeed the center of Web3 adoption.
