The Sandbox: Adidas is entering the Metaverse

The Metaverse is going to be a vibrant space that will allow people from all over the world to come together and meet each other in a virtual place. While many sceptics thought that all of this is just going to be a playful idea and a niche, things have changed. The Metaverse is probably going to be the biggest thing in the next few years because it not only creates digital worlds but also new and mostly tokenized markets.

The Sandbox is one of these places

There are two versions of the Metaverse. The first one is a corporate structure that you already know from social media apps. Facebook is aiming to become such a place by rebranding into Meta and offering its users a new way to interact.

The second version of the Metaverse is decentralized. It offers its users to be part of a virtual world and own digital goods and content through tokenization and NFTs. This part of the metaverse will be secured by blockchain technology. The Sandbox is one of many gateways to the decentralized part of the Metaverse.

It is a virtual world that will allow players to interact with each other and even own land through NFTs. Similar to Decentraland, players need an in-game currency to interact with the world and buy or sell items using the SAND token.

Adidas is entering The Sandbox

But the Sandbox is not only a place to trade content. It will be also possible to create your own content such as items, buildings, and cloth. This opens a lot of room for companies to enter a new digital age and new product lines.

It was yesterday that Adidas announced via Twitter that the company will start the “adiVerse” in cooperation with the Sandbox. It is yet unknown what Adidas has planned exactly but the choices are obvious. They might opt for a digital headquarter that can be visited by customers. This wouldn’t be too much of a surprise after Barbados announced that it is going to open a virtual embassy in Decentraland.

Another possible option would be a digital product line for Adidas sportswear. It is highly likely that people will dress and equip their avatars with items that they really love. And who knows, maybe there will be a special edition of sneakers that will only be available in the Metaverse.
